Buchholz’s fight televised free on Spike TV tonight

I wrote earlier that local fighter Justin Buchholz’s fight tonight was one of many great ones listed on the “UFC 109: Relentless” lineup. That’s still true. Luckily, though, it’ll be easier than expected to watch it.

The UFC will broadcast two of the live undercard bouts on Spike TV for free tonight before the pay-per-view event begins, one of them being Buchholz’s fight.

Spike TV will telecast live undercard bouts from UFC 109 on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The one-hour telecast will run with limited commercial interruption. UFC 109 will air on pay-per-view at 7 p.m.

The first bout scheduled to air on Spike TV is a lightweight contest between The Ultimate Fighter Season 6 winner Mac Danzig (19-7-1) and Justin Buchholz (9-4-0).  Danzig, a one-time PRIDE fighter and former King of the Cage champion, is looking to get back on the winning track after three hard fought battles against Clay Guida, Josh Neer and Jim Miller. Back fighting out of Los Angeles, Calif, Danzig is more motivated than ever to make a run at the 155-pound crown.  To get back on track, he must stop Buchholz, an Alaska native that fights out of Sacramento, Calif. Perhaps best known for his shock of dyed orange hair, Buchholz is known for a high energy style that always results in memorable bouts. With both warriors desperately looking to impress fight fans, viewers can expect an all out war.

The evening’s second televised bout pits Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (41-9-3, 1 NC) against Ronys Torres (18-1-0).  Guillard, a castmember on the second season of The Ultimate Fighter has scored six wins in the UFC, with victories against Gleison Tibau and Marcus Davis on his resume. Now training in Albuquerque, Guillard is eager to show Torres the new tricks he’s picked up. Winner of eight straight bouts, including three in a row via submission, Ronys Torres will be making his debut with the UFC when he takes on Guillard. Training out of Brazil with Nova União, Torres is a well rounded fighter, with five of his wins coming via KO and seven via submission. His range of skills will be necessary as he takes on the experienced Guillard.

Other bouts on the card might air on Spike TV, to be determined by the length of the fights.
