River Cats back home

The Sacramento River Cats returned to Raley Field on July 27 after a two-week road stint. As the team gains ground in search of another PCL title, there are ample opportunities for fans to enjoy exciting promotions for the July 27-August 3 homestand as the Cats take on the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Triple-A Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies) July 27-30 and the Las Vegas 51s (Triple-A Affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays) July 31-August 3. Promotions slated for the upcoming homestand include: Greek Night (July 29), River Cats Go to Hollywood (July 30), Players’ Wives’ Food Drive (August 1), Sacramento Baseball History Night (August 2) and Do You Believe in Magic Night (August 3).

SureWest Sports Show names athletes and coaches of the year

SureWest Communications announced the second annual SureWest Sports Show Athletes and Coaches of the Year award winners. Winners selected for the 2009-10 season were:

Katie Simon (Roseville): SureWest Sports Show Female Athlete of the Year
Lefi Letuligasenoa (Elk Grove): SureWest Sports Show Male Athlete of the Year
Greg Benzel (Rocklin): SureWest Sports Show Boys Athletics Coach of the Year
Steve White (Oak Ridge): SureWest Sports Show Girls Athletics Coach of the Year

Highlights and interviews with the winners will air on the June 16, 2010 episode of the SureWest Sports Show, a weekly 30-minute youth and high school sports program that can be viewed on SureWest channel 702 and online at surewestsports.com. Airing on TV every Wednesday at 7 p.m. with replays throughout the week, the SureWest Sports Show is the only Sacramento area show to feature both youth and high school sports, and consists of scores, highlights and interviews from games around the region. The Rabobank cycling team will compete in the Amgen Tour of California 2010 starting this weekend. The Tour de France-style cycling race challenges the world’s top professional bike teams to compete along a demanding course throughout California from May 16-23.
