State wrestling champions crowned, one local
Oakmont junior Jake Elliott entered the CIF State Wrestling Championships at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield last weekend as the state’s top-ranked wrestler at 145 pounds. The pressure and expectations, and eventual finals opponent Jessie Baldazo of Liberty High, couldn’t slow Elliott from his destiny and a state title.
Masters tourney sends wrestlers to state
The 2011 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Wrestling Championships were held at Stockton Arena Feb. 25-26, showcasing the best wrestlers in the Sacramento area.

High School senior Dano Graves is no celebrity. If you saw him in the street, you wouldn’t think he was famous, or that he was a superstar football player who has accomplished things most athletes could only dream about. Yet on a beautiful Tuesday morning, the 5-foot-9-inch quarterback was signing autographs like he was the next Tom Brady.

The dust has settled, the smoke has cleared. Ten teams entered the weekend with dreams of a state title on the line, five went home champions. Two of them were from Northern California’s Sac-Joaquin Section.
