Stage 2 start in Davis gives local fans a last look at riders

While the show has left Sacramento, the race continues, leaving the 100,000 fans who witnessed Stage 1 curious about which cyclist will take the crown in this year’s Amgen Tour of California. With a Stage 2 start in Davis, local fans got one last chance to see the riders compete before they were off to Santa Rosa.

100,000 view Sacramento finish of Amgen’s Stage 1

The Sacramento Sports Commission, after consulting with the Sacramento Police Department, estimated Sunday’s crowd for the first stage finish of the Amgen Tour of California was 100,000. That number is based on aerial shots in comparison to last year (estimated 75,000-80,000) and the fact that it includes the Folsom Blvd. stretch from Jackson Road into downtown.

NorCal cyclist overcomes crash, injuries to race Tour of California

Nearly a year ago, cyclist Lucas Euser was training in Spain when he was involved in a crash with an SUV, sending the promising rider tumbling with multiple injuries. Now, a year later and after rehabbing a broken kneecap, the Northern California cyclist is ready to compete against some of the best in the world again.

Five area pro athletes who might have celebrated Cinco de Mayo

Today marks the Mexican-American celebration of Cinco de Mayo, in which Mexican and American soldiers defeated the French army at Puebla, Mexico on May 5, 1862. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not Mexican Independence Day, but still a heavily-celebrated holiday in both the United States and Mexico. Click here for some history on why.
