Chuck Liddell visit highlights grand opening of Folsom MMA
Fans filled the gym and lined up out the door of Folsom MMA on June 6, eagerly awaiting a chance to see and even meet UFC legend Chuck Liddell. While they waited, though, they got a glimpse of something a little closer to home, a new mixed martial arts gym in Folsom, one set on popularizing the sport even more in town.

MMA in Sacramento: The house Urijah built
Anyone who argues that Urijah Faber isn’t the reason the Sacramento mixed martial arts scene has exploded is a fool. Anyone living here the last five years, when MMA went from a brutal sideshow to a mainstream sport, watched the growth of “The California Kid,” a former UC Davis wrestler turned pro fighter, who dominated competition everywhere he went. The growth of Faber and the growth of the sport went hand in hand, and Sacramento became a hot spot because of the partnership between the two.
Masters of the track and field
The CIF Sac-Joaquin Masters track and field meet was held at Hughes Stadium last week as athletes competed for an opportunity to qualify for the CIF State Championships June 5-6. After an intense few days, those on top of their game came out on top of their competition, and earned the right to represent the Sacramento area as its group of elite athletes in Clovis this weekend for the ultimate in track and field.
Brown vs. Faber II: The greatest fight of all time?
Already labeled the “greatest Featherweight fight of all time,” Sunday’s upcoming championship battle between current 145-pound champion Mike Brown and former champion Urijah Faber should indeed be a barn burner. Whether or not the fight will live up to the hype is another question, but one both fighters are eager to answer inside the cage.
