As the NBA wraps up the regular season, Kings fans are left in limbo. Will Sacramento be home to an NBA team next season, or will it return to obscurity?

I have to confess that I haven’t been very excited about the Kings lately. Between their lousy record and the Maloof’s negotiations with Anaheim, I’ve felt very disconnected. Add a few new names to the roster, and I don’t even recognize the team.

In 1985 the Kings came to Sacramento and hired radio play-by-play announcer Gary Gerould. Now, 26 years later, he is an NBA legend.

The past few years have been pretty dismal at Arco Arena in Sacramento. Game after game, the Kings stayed competitive through the first three quarters, only to lose momentum, and ultimately the game in the final 12 minutes. 

Once or twice every year, my mother makes a dish called “Under the Bridge”.

It was beginning to look like another impressive Kings comeback effort. After trailing by as much as 18 in the first half, Sacramento cut the New Jersey lead to eight by halftime. The run continued into the second half, and the Kings found themselves up 97-89 with just over three minutes to play. But then DeMarcus Cousins fouled out. The Nets, fueled by Devin Harris, seized momentum and held off a late Kings rally to win, 106-100.

The Kings shot out of the gate last season, surprising the NBA with a 13-14 start that injected life back into the flailing franchise.

Every one of the all-time greats had something to say about the “Decision” that LeBron James made over the summer to form a super trio in South Beach.

Luck continued to elude the Kings at Tuesday’s NBA Draft Lottery, as Sacramento landed the fifth pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.
