MMA Transforming with Competition
So the sport of Mixed Martial Arts has finally hit mainstream America. Last night I watched “Never Back Down,” a movie resembling cheesy “Laguna Beach” shows and an updated “Karate Kid,” but with an MMA twist. I rather enjoyed it, not because of the teenage bully plot or the “I’m richer than you are” mentality, but like any action junkie, for the fight scenes, which impressively showcased several moves actual MMA fighters rely on for victory.
A Short Season for Success
The Sacramento Capitals’ World TeamTennis season came and went recently, swooping through the area like a traveling circus. Performers put on a good show, packed their bags and went home all over the course of one month, going back to their lives, while leaving fans hungry for more.
A Shameful Situation
My grandpa once told me after I’d gotten in a fight with my sister as a child that if I ever hit a woman my hand would stick up from out of my grave when I die. The thought haunted me for years.
A 61-Second Heartbreaker
OK, so by the definition of the sports term, “heartbreaker” might not be the right word for Saturday night’s fight. But when you learn to care about someone’s personal success, whether his loss was close or not makes no difference on the wrenching experience.
