Jordan Hasay steals spotlight at Golden West Invitational
When Arroyo Grande’s Jordan Hasay entered the Golden West Invitational for the first time as an eighth grader, she looked to her competition in awe, hoping to keep up with the fastest runners in the nation as she learned the ropes of high school track and field. Five years later, and in her fifth straight trip to the event, Hassay was the headliner, won her event nearly half a lap ahead of the rest of the pack, and drew a standing ovation from a crowd in Folsom eager to see a possible future Olympian.
Golden West Invitational in Folsom today
Arguably one of the biggest track and field events in the Sacramento area commences today at Folsom Stadium next to Folsom High School, as the adidas Golden West Invitational marks its 50th year of showcasing the best high school track and field athletes in the nation.

One morning last June my summer slumber was interrupted by a phone call at the ungodly hour of 11 a.m. I presumed it to be some sort of emergency. Maybe my friend Jack was in jail for socking Sasha Vujacic in the face. Maybe my buddy Dane was trampled at a party by a swarm of beautiful women who had mistaken him for John Mayer. Maybe my cousin Jed had been invited into the VIP lounge at the Tryst in Vegas by Mickael Pietrus and needed me to set his DVR.
