Useless Awards
As the Heisman trophy sets to be awarded tonight to the nation’s top college football player, I found myself caught in all of the controversy of who wasn’t invited, who deserves it more and who will be a lasting pro in the NFL. Most of the arguments put forth by analysts were loaded with stats from the regular season, and several references were thrown to awards the players nominated won earlier in the week. Which got me thinking… what’s the point of the other awards anyway?
Rooting for the Other Guys
It’s always interesting to me to hear how fans grew to love the teams they do. Most stories revolve around growing up watching local teams on TV with fathers. But some vary slightly, and it’s these that I want to talk about today.

It’s what every high school football player hopes to hear at one point in his career. Even linemen hope to somehow acquire some kind of highlight reel memory. Well the past few weeks, with the Sac-Joaquin Section football playoffs in full effect, there has never been a better time.
