A co-worker of mine approached me on Tuesday with a smile. “What are you in love with this guy?” he asked, showing me page 23 of the Nov. 7 edition of The Sacramento Union, in which I’ve placed a fairly large photo of Sacramento fighter Urijah Faber to tease a column I’ll be writing for the following week’s issue.

I don’t pretend to know much about politics. We have plenty of experts working for us to cover that base. But as an outside observer I’ve noticed one thing about Sacramento’s race for mayor (which concludes on Tuesday’s Election Day): Kevin Johnson is the man.

I turned on the Oakland Raiders’ game right now and they were playing the national anthem. While I prepared to puff out my chest with pride, an attractive woman started singing the wrong song!
