So it Begins…

The Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs began this week and already there’s been a few very good games deciding who will advance to later rounds.

Division I:

Division I playoffs begin tonight for the boys bracket, as No. 1 seed Folsom looks to defend its section title from a season ago with an experienced squad at home against Armijo. Should be a cake walk for the Bulldogs facing the No. 16 seed, but Armijo had to fight in a game to even earn the bracket’s final spot, so the team’s gloves are already off. You never know.

Game to watch: No. 6 Sheldon vs. No. 11 Turlock. Keep an eye on sophomore sensation Darius Nelson for Sheldon. He could carry the Huskies deep into the playoffs.

In the girls bracket, No. 1 Kennedy smashed No. 16 Grace Davis on Feb. 26, 78-39, and will face No. 9 McNair on Saturday at Cosumnes River College, a team that beat No. 8 Enochs, 64-61. No. 5 Lodi beat No. 12 Beyer, 51-29, and will face No. 13 Nevada Union, a team that beat No. 4 Napa, 52-48. No. 3 Linoln beat No. 14 Golden Valley, 59-41, and will play No. 6 Sheldon, a team that beat No. 11 Davis Sr., 42-31. No. 7 Franklin of Elk Grove beat No. 10 Modesto, 60-41, and will play No. 15 Tracy, a team that surprised No. 2 Turlock with a 52-49 win.

Division II:

No. 1 Rocklin took care of business against No. 16 Valley on Feb. 25, 84-45, and will face No. 9 Oak Ridge tonight, a team that beat No. 8 Manteca, 72-71. no. 5 Wood beat No. 12 Benecia, 54-32, and will face No. 4 Pleasant Grove, a team that beat No. 13 Del Campo, 66-56. No. 3 Bella Vista beat No. 14 Granite Bay, 46-44, and will face No. 11 Woodcreek, a team that beat No. 6 Yuba City, 76-71. No. 7 Ponderosa beat No. 10 Vallejo, 69-57, and will face No. 2 Fairfield, a team that beat No. 15 Bear Creek, 61-50.

In the girls bracket, No. 1 Oak Ridge ran away from No. 16 Rocklin, 74-21, on Feb. 24, then beat No. 8 Woodcreek on Feb. 26, 59-30. Woodcreek had beat No. 9 Wood, 74-59, in the first round. Oak Ridge will now face No. 4 Grant at the University of Pacific on March 4. Grant beat No. 13 Pleasant Grove, 74-49, before beating No. 5 Granite Bay, 72-56. Granite Bay beat No. 12 Ponderosa in the first round, 62-52. No. 3 Bella Vista beat No. 14 Vacaville, 57-20, but lost to No. 6 Valley in the second round, 56-71. Valley beat No. 11 Bear Creek in the first round, 57-44, and will face No. 2 St. Francis next. St. Francis beat No. 15 Roseville, 69-31, then beat No. 7 Fairfield, 63-34.

Division III:

No. 1 Sacramento High racked up the stats in blowing out No. 16 Weston Ranch on Feb. 25, 91-49, and will face No. 8 Lincoln tonight, a team that beat No. 9 River City, 68-60. No. 5 Whitney beat No. 12 Center, 55-41, and will face No. 13 St. Mary’s, a team that beat No. 4 Sierra, 51-42. No. 3 Foothill beat No. 14 Woodland, 58-48, and will face No. 11 Natomas, a team that beat No. 6 Livingston, 96-94, in overtime. No. 7 Sonora beat No. 10 Patterson, 57-47, and will face No. 2 Del Oro, a team that beat No. 15 El Camino, 92-66.

In the girls bracket, No. 1 St. Mary’s smoked No. 16 Livingston, 99-15, then beat No. 9 Sonora, 95-39, to advance to a March 4 meeting at Galt High School with No. 4 East Union. East Union beat No. 13 Inderkum in the first round, 75-61, and beat No. 5 El Dorado, 46-40. El Dorado beat No. 12 Ceres in the first round, 69-33. No. 3 Sacramento beat No. 14 Oakdale, 78-33, then beat No. 6 Vanden, 60-52, and will face No. 2 Del Oro. Vanden beat No. 11 Weston Ranch in the first round, 72-36. Del Oro beat No. 15 Center, 49-23, then beat No. 7 El Camino, 42-32. El Camino beat No. 10 Dixon in the first round, 44-40.

Division IV:

No. 1 and No. 2 seeds Christian Brothers and Vista del Lago did as expected, dominating their first round opponent in the boys bracket. Christian Brothers beat No. 16 Hilmar on Feb. 25, 70-57, and will face No. 9 Capital Christian tonight, a team that beat No. 8 Calaveras, 54-43. Vista del Lago beat No. 15 Orestimba, 76-34, and will face No. 10 Encina, a team that beat No. 7 Mariposa, 82-59. No. 12 Colfac beat No. 5 Central Catholic, 50-39, and will face No. 4 San Juan, a team that beat No. 13 Bret Harte, 48-45. No. 3 Bear River beat No. 14 Linden, 59-48, and will face No. 6 Modesto Christian, a team that beat No. 11 Le Grand, 99-30.

In the girls bracket, No. 1 Christian Brothers beat No. 16 Bret Harte, 63-34, then beat No. 9 Bear River, 57-53, and will now face No. 5 Linden at Tokay High School on March 4. Bear River beat No. 8 Capital Christian in the first round, 43-29. Linden beat No. 12 Colfax, 60-47, then beat No. 4 Hilmar, 47-29. Hilmar beat No. 13 Vacaville Christian in the first round, 51-40. No. 3 Argonaut beat No. 14 Encina, 67-51, then beat No. 6 Le Grand, 75-51, and now will face No. 7 Modesto Christian. Le Grand beat No. 11 Hughson in the first round, 44-26. Modesto Christian beat No. 10 West Campus, 80-43, then beat No. 2 Vista del Lago, 68-38. Vista del Lago beat No. 15 Calaveras in the first round, 58-42.

Division V:

In the boys bracket on Feb. 25, No. 1 seed Bradshaw Christtian beat Foresthill, 81-58, and faces No. 8 Big Valley Christian tonight. Big Valley beat Tioga, 58-50. No. 5 Ripon Christian beat No. 12 Millennium, 82-50, and will face No. 4 Victory Christian, a team that beat No. 13 Stone Ridge Christian, 84-33. No. 3 Forest Lake Christian beat No. 14 Sac Adventist, 75-44, and will face No. 11 Valley Christian, a team that beat No. 6 New Life Christian, 75-33. No. 7 Sac Country Day squeaked out a tight one over No. 10 Brookside Christian, 67-66, and will face No. 2 Sac Waldorf, a team that beat Sierra Ridge, 66-53.

In the girls bracket, No. 1 Bradshaw Christian beat No. 16 Big Valley Christian, 67-17, then beat No. 8 Forest Lake Christian, 78-27, and will face No. 4 Turlock Christian on March 3 at Galt High School. Turlock Christian beat No. 13 Faith Christian, 50-32, then beat No. 12 Ripon Christian, 37-27. Ripon Christian beat No. 5 Mountain Oaks in the first round, 47-30. No. 3 Sac Waldorf beat No. 14 Sac Adventist, 53-23, then beat No. 6 Lodi Academy, 52-30, and now will face No. 2 Wilton Christian. Lodi Academy beat No. 11 New Life Christian, 52-20. Wilton Christian beat No. 15 Victory Christian, 60-23, then No. 10 Foresthill, 58-11. Foresthill beat No. 7 Trinity Prep in the first round, 38-17.
